3 Places To Build Your Network

You have probably heard that networking is very important to find a job, so where can you meet new people and get to know people in your industry? In this post, I want to share three places you can network:

1. LinkedIn

LinkedIn has around 400 million users worldwide and it is used by a lot of the professionals in Sweden, especially recruiters. There are tons of things you can do on LinkedIn to meet people:

  • Connect with other people. Write a short note why you want to connect to them.
  • Become a member of groups. LinkedIn has a lot of groups for different professionals.
  • Write posts and articles. Articles on LinkedIn are being read. One really nice feature with LinkedIn is that whenever someone likes your post, it will show up in other people’s news feed. Also, you will see who is reading and liking your posts. For instance, I can see how many people from Ericsson have read my posts and what positions they have.
  • Comment on other people’s posts and articles.

2. Meetup.com

Meetup is a site where a lot of meetups are posted, Meetups are informal or formal meetings around some specific interest. In Stockholm, there are tons of groups with everything from crafts to tech.

Meetup also a feature where you can talk to people that are in the same group.

3. Facebook Groups

There are so many great Facebook groups for professionals. Search for your interest and become a member, like our group.

There are many other groups for specific interests. Groups for startup people, general job groups, and groups for people that just want to help each other.

Become a member of groups like these ones and start to participate in the discussion. If there is no group for your specific interest, why not create one yourself? I would be very happy to join groups about customer service, sales/business development, event production and much more. But I don’t see any active groups about that. This can be something to work on while job hunting, a targeted group about some small niche subject.
